The Psalms of the Day for the twentieth day of the month are 20, 50, 80, 110, and 140.
Psalm 20 is a psalm of encouragement, reminding us that LORD does answer us in the day of trouble. We commit ourselves to trusting in the name of YHWH our God and His Christ even if all around us are collapsing. We can thank our Father for answering our prayers in Jesus because He has saved our King, Jesus, and answered his call! We pray this psalm in the midst of our sorrows and troubles, asking God to do as He has promised and answer our pleas for justice and mercy.
Psalm 50 proclaims the triumph of our God! He is the judge of all the earth and He does not need us or our sacrifices, but He yet calls us to draw near to Him and judge ourselves rightly in light of His glorious grace. By this psalm we are reminded to humble ourselves and turn away from evil and arrogant ways to the One Who delivers us!
Psalm 80 is a cry of the exile, a lament of the one who lives in a land where God is neither worshiped or obeyed. We can identify with this as those who dwell in a time when people and governments are arranged on a way that opposes God, even as we the remnant cling to His ways and follow His call. By it we pray that God will overthrow the wicked (including the wicked ways of our own hears and restore true justice to tne land!
Psalm 110 is a proclamation against those who oppose Jesus and is, reminding us that Jesus is King and Lord
and Savior!
And Psalm 140 is a prayer for deliverance from those who have set themselves against us. There are many reasons why we may oppose each other – and we must always be humble enough to recognize that their may be those who pray this prayer against us. May we always be quick to repent when a brother or sister brings a complaint against us, and may we always be quick to forgive those who repent to us. None of us can claim to be righteous apart from God’s grace to us in Christ Jesus – so let us display charity and goodwill towards one another as Jesus has demonstrated his love for us in dying on the cross. Let us rejoice in what God is doing through us and for us in Jesus!
