The Psalms of the Day for the twelfth day of the month are 12, 42, 72, 102, and 132
Psalm 12 is a plea to YHWH to save the godly and revive the faithful when it seems they have vanished from the land, coupled with a confident declaration that YHWH will save His faithful servants and strengthen them by His pure words, in spite of the wickedness around us. Through Psalm 12 we can and will pray that by His Word our God will arise to keep us and guard us against the wicked and vile as we proclaim His Word.
Psalm 42 helps us pray with longing for the presence of YHWH in our midst, and for the days when we will worship Him together with glad shouts and songs of praise as we enter His house and see His face. We remember with hope that He alone is our flowing stream for which we thirst, He is our salvation and our God.
Psalm 72 is a kingly Psalm that encourages us to glory in King Jesus, who has defeated all his and our enemies and is seated on the throne. Through this Psalm we can and will pray that our King will reign with justice and might, helping and delivering the poor, the oppressed, the needy, and those who have been violently abused. We pray that we will be those who work with our King to give justice to all these, and that we will share in the abundance of his blessings as we are blessed in him.
Psalm 102 is a lament in which we express sorrow and anguish over our sin and misery, pleading with God to have pity on us His people and praying confidently for the day when the peoples will be gathered together in Zion to worship YHWH. We remember our frailty, finitude, and weakness while exalting God’s power, eternal reign, and strength.
And Psalm 132 is a glorious declaration of God’s sovereignty and sure promises to His people that we will be ruled by a righteous King in a city strong and true, the heavenly Jerusalem, even Zion, where we will enter His rest and see His goodness. We pray with gladness that we will see that Day both when Christ returns and also now in the midst of our enemies, for they will be clothed with shame while we adore our crowned King. By the work of the Holy Spirit even now we can see glimpses of this future glory in which we share by faith, while we wait patiently in hope.
