Psalms of the Day – Day 7

The Psalms of the Day for the seventh day of the month are 7, 37, 67, 97, and 127.

Psalm 7 helps us direct our anxious thoughts to YHWH and trust in Him to protect and provide for us. As we pray this psalm we first ask the Spirit to search our hearts as we humble ourselves before the Lord. We then ask YHWH to judge us and our enemies and find us innocent in Christ, according to Christ’s righteousness. We pray for each other that we would keep ourselves free from deceit and not be enslaved by desires to entrap others (digging pits for them). And we praise and thank God for his righteousness towards us as we seek to honor Him with our desires, thoughts, words, and deeds.

In Psalm 37 we continue to pray for one another that we will trust in YHWH and do good, not following after the wicked ways around us. We ask our Father to direct our hearts by His Spirit to delight in Him, so that we will be satisfied with His good gifts. We pray through this psalm asking God to work in us that which is pleasing to Him, knowing that without the Spirit of Christ in us we would be as the wicked who perish. We pray that He would establish our steps and be upheld when we stumble. May we be those who wait upon Him to exalt us and not seek to exalt ourselves, patiently enduring the contempt of the wicked and living at peace with everyone as far as it depends on us.

Psalm 67 is a prayer to bless one another which can be prayed word for word. We pray this prayer in hope for one another, knowing that God shall bless us as we join all creation in fearing and praising Him!

Psalm 97 is a prayer of praise to the true and living God, Who reigns on high and is sovereign over all the universe. There is a rhythm of praise in this psalm which makes it easy to pray as we go from coastlands to mountains proclaiming the glory of the Lord of all the earth! We ask to be preserved from evil and that light will reign in our hearts. We pray for joy and thanksgiving to characterize our attitudes as we seek first His kingdom and His righteousness. Praise YHWH!

In Psalm 127 we pray for wisdom to remember that YHWH is the source of all safety and security. We ask for one another that we would not seek vain things, but only the good gifts that come from above. We pray for rest, and especially that we would find rest only in Him. And we pray that the Lord would bless our churches and families with fruitfulness, growing and maturing as He adds to our number by His gracious hand as He fills up the number of saints He has called to Himself in Christ Jesus. Truly we will not be put to shame when we speak with our enemies in the gates!
