The Fool and the Way of Death

Julie Lowe

Mostly dead is still slightly alive…but the fool is on the way to all dead.

A fool is someone who knows God and His ways and rejects and ignores it.

3 types of fools: the simple, the stubborn, and the scoffer.

Often foolishness starts off with a small step in the wrong direction that is left uncorrected. There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is death.

The simple one enjoys easy pleasures. He is easily enticed and her affections are easily captured. The simple one allows himself to be persuaded, sometimes by wisdom, but just as easily by folly. (Example of commercial advertising…) We must pledge allegiance to one way or the other. And we must do all we can to convince the simple to turn from folly to wisdom.

The stubborn one insists on his own way in spite of knowledge of God’s law. The stubborn one refuses correction and closes his eyes towards anyone and anyone who tries to correct.

The scoffer invites quarrels, opposes goodness, seduces the simple, and despises God. (Romans 1). The scoffer is proud and confident.

Too often those who call themselves Christians live as functional atheists. There is no God in their daily lives. God is missing from our relationships, decisions, business patterns, and desires. We say in our hearts there is no God.

Titus 3:3 for we ourselves were once foolish and disobedient. We constantly need to correct our course to stay on the path of wisdom.

Where in my life am I living as if God does not exist?

We all need to be rescued from folly. We need to question our judgments with humility and willingness to be corrected.

We never know when someone is all dead. We must always hope (for our own sakes) that no matter how far down the path of folly anyone goes, we can always return to the path of wisdom. Because there is a miracle worker who can raise even the all dead person and set her on the path of life and wisdom!

Jesus takes the simple and gives him discernment. Jesus takes the stubborn and gives her a heart of humility. Jesus takes the scoffer and gives him wisdom. Even the most hardened individual can be transformed by an encounter with the living God.

In the school of wisdom we learn to fill every corner of our lives with the Spirit of God. The more we learn of wisdom the more beautiful it becomes.
